Product News : SAMSUNG Announces Chromebook 2 Series Featuring Faster Performance, Increased Productivity and Stylish Design

AUSTIN, Texas – MARCH 3, 2014 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced the launch of the Chromebook 2 Series. The new models, available in 11.6- and 13.3-inch configurations, improve on the popular Samsung Chromebook line with faster performance, longer battery life and a slim, light build enhanced by a durable textured lid and elegant stitched design. The 13.3-inch model also features a Full HD (1920×1080) resolution screen, enabling users to enjoy vibrant visuals for work, teaching and learning, and entertainment. Samsung was the leading Chromebook brand in the U.S. in 2013, accounting for more than 60 percent of overall market share, according to NPD.1

“Since we introduced our first Chromebook in 2011, Samsung has been committed to continually developing our designs and features to meet our users’ ever-changing needs, while staying true to the core Chromebook attributes of simplicity, speed and security,” said Mike Abary, senior vice president of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung has been the top selling consumer Chromebook brand for the past three years and we’ll continue to grow our leadership position in this space with the launch of the Chromebook 2 Series.”

“Chromebooks are particularly important in the education space – according to Futuresource, one in four devices now sold into K-12 schools in the U.S. are Chromebooks – so we’ve designed our latest models with students and teachers in mind, including features like rapid start times, longer battery life and an easy-to-grip design,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division.

    Lightning fast performance
The Samsung Chromebook 2 Series offers users nearly instant access to everything they need. It wakes up in less than one second and cold boots in less than ten. Samsung’s energy-efficient Exynos 5 Octa processors allow for effortless multitasking and rapid rendering of graphics and videos, so multimedia content never misses a beat.

Powerful productivity paired with rich multimedia
The 13.3-inch Chromebook 2 features a best-in-class, Full HD (1920×1080) display with 250nit brightness, perfect for viewing photos, video and more. It is also optimized for Google+ Hangouts messaging and video calling with enhanced audio quality on high-power speakers (2Wx2) and a noise reducing array microphone, helping conversations come alive on the high-resolution screen.

Up to 8.5 hours of battery life means that users can enjoy the Chromebook 2 models throughout a full work or school day – all on a single charge.

Chromebooks update automatically, ensuring users always have the most recent technology and security features without needing to think about it. Also, when you use a Chromebook, all your information and files are saved, encrypted to your account. This makes it easy and safe for family members or students to share a device, or switch between devices.

The Samsung Chromebook 2 Series comes with a package of premium apps worth more than $100. It includes smartphone access and data management service Air Droid Premium, task management and collaboration app Wunderlist Pro, and LittleBridge.com, an English learning app.

    Sleek, elegant design
While priced affordably, the new Samsung Chromebook 2 models are as stylish as other expensive, high-end laptops. The slim body measures less than three-quarters of an inch thick, making it easy to slip into any bag. At just under 2.5 pounds for the 11.6-inch model, it is also easy to carry anywhere. The lid features the stylish stitched design of the Samsung GALAXY Note 3, adding to the sophisticated look.

    Ready for the classroom
In 2013, Chromebooks were among the most popular mobile computing devices utilized in K-12 schools. As the leading provider of Chromebooks in education, Samsung is helping to foster this growth by increasing options for educators with the Chromebook 2 models. With its extensive battery life, bright display and student-friendly design, the Chromebook 2 helps teachers engage students and deliver new learning experiences.

The Samsung Chromebook 2 Series is ideal for educators and administrators seeking to adopt one-to-one learning programs. Using the web-based console – available with support from Google for $30 per device for schools – Samsung Chromebooks can be centrally managed, making it easy for educators to configure a set of laptops across the classroom or the entire school. Samsung Chromebook 2 is a classroom-ready and cost-effective solution to support dynamic teaching and learning.

Available from April, the 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 will be available for an MSRP of $319.99, while the 13.3-inch model is $399.99.

Product News : SAMSUNG Announces U.S. Availability of BusinessCore™ Printing Solutions for SMBs

RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ – February 4, 2014Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced U.S. availability of its BusinessCore Printing Solutions for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). Designed to increase workplace efficiency through easy-to-use, serverless printing, Samsung’s BusinessCore Printing Solutions enable SMBs to meet specific document handling, output management and print accounting needs, while delivering robust security, maximizing productivity and minimizing expenditures.

BusinessCore Printing Solutions consist of integrated document management and output management solutions compatible with Samsung’s A3 and A4 multifunction printers (MFPs) that feature the XOA Embedded open platform. By incorporating automated printing solutions that work seamlessly with existing infrastructure, SMBs can manage, print and share documents with greater efficiency and agility. The services also protect sensitive documents by providing robust security with SecuThru Lite v2.

“Samsung is focused on delivering an enhanced business experience, a big part of which is helping companies of all sizes more efficiently manage their print resources,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president of Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Our BusinessCore Printing Solutions allow SMB customers to create customizable workflow experiences using our new generation of multifunction devices – in particular, SMBs who are looking for a productive and cost-efficient solution, but aren’t prepared to make an extensive IT investment.”

BusinessCore Printing Solutions provide an essential suite of offerings to create a seamless workflow experience for business environments where there is no IT manager or separate IT budget and the need to ensure easy installation and operation without a server is paramount. BusinessCore Printing Solutions are available in two solution packages – the BusinessCore Document Management Pack, and the BusinessCore Output Management Pack.

    BusinessCore Document Management Pack
The BusinessCore Document Management Pack contains three key solutions in one for increased productivity, security, and efficiency – SmarThru™ Workflow Lite, Cloud Connector, and Secure Login Manager.

    • SmarThru Workflow Lite enables users to process and distribute documents to multiple destinations through an automated document capturing, scanning and routing solution. It also supports a Zone Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature that allows documents with special text and barcodes in specific sections to be automatically classified once scanned.

    • Cloud Connector provides a secure solution for scanning and printing documents from the cloud, without a need for a separate server. Cloud Connector supports a number of cloud services, including Microsoft® SharePoint® Online and Google® Drive, as well as PDF, TIFF and JPG formats.

    • Secure Login Manager offers authenticated access to MFPs. Companies can choose from numerous authentication methods, including MFP internal authentication, network authentication, user ID and password input, employee ID cards and manual PIN input.

    BusinessCore Output Management Pack
The BusinessCore Output Management Pack is comprised of two solutions for increased security and cost efficiency – SecuThru™ Lite 2 and Usage Tracker.

    • SecuThru Lite 2 strengthens document security through user authentication. When a document is sent to the printer, it will not print until the user authenticates their credentials. Documents are encrypted for added security and are virtually queued before being printed, which can cut down needless print jobs that have been accidentally sent to print. SecuThru™ Lite 2 enables serverless pull printing among up to ten devices, and allows registration of up to 500 users to cater to a wide range of SMB sizes and needs.

    • Usage Tracker monitors an individual’s usage across all networked MFPs including printing, photocopying, scanning and faxing on the printer’s operation panel. Usage reports can also be generated and delivered via email to enable proactive resource management, leading to lower operational costs.

All Samsung printers can be found at select Samsung resellers and channel partners. Local availability can be determined by calling 1-866-SAM-4BIZ or by visiting samsung.com/business. Follow us on Twitter @SamsungBizUSA.

Product News : SAMSUNG Announces New Galaxy Tab Exclusively Designed for Education

Orlando, Fla. – January 29, 2014 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today at FETC 2014 announced plans to launch a new Galaxy Tab exclusively developed for education, which will be available for K-12 school deployments for the 2014-2015 academic year. Launching as part of the Google Play for Education program, the classroom-ready, 10.1-inch tablet will offer simple set up and device management, access to curated educational content, and other features to support dynamic, digital teaching and learning.

“Samsung and Google for Education share a commitment to delivering innovative learning experiences to improve student outcomes,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “The new Galaxy Tab with Google Play for Education integration was created to specifically address the needs of today’s schools and support our vision for powering education by empowering educators.”

Samsung’s education-specific Galaxy Tab is designed for integration with Google Play for Education, Google’s content store for K-12 schools. Google Play for Education gives educators access to a wide selection of teacher-approved apps, books, and videos, helping them deliver more engaging and personalized learning to each student. Teachers can search for content by grade, subject and standard (including Common Core), make purchases using a pre-loaded school PO rather than a credit card, and deliver content to students’ tablets in a matter of seconds.

With a 10.1-inch WXGA display, the new Galaxy Tab for Education provides students an exceptional viewing experience and the 16:10 aspect ratio is ideal for viewing educational content. It will feature the latest version of Android (version 4.4 or Kit Kat), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n support for better connectivity, and rear- and front-facing cameras to make capturing images and web chats easy.

The new Galaxy Tab will also include Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, so administrators can quickly and easily set up a classroom of devices with a few taps. Google also provides a web-based management console that will allow schools to easily manage and configure their entire fleet of devices.

Samsung’s new education tablet is set to expand its lineup of Android-powered Galaxy devices and complements the company’s broad portfolio of technology solutions for K-12 education. Available from April, the new Galaxy Tab for education will be sold through Samsung distribution and channel partners.

Additionally, the full line-up of Samsung’s education products and solutions will be on display at FETC this week at the Orange County Convention Center, Booth #323, and includes:

    • Samsung School – A fully integrated one-to-one learning package that combines the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet with an interactive whiteboard display and other classroom technology, all tied together through powerful interactive management software to create an integrated, student-centric learning environment.
    • Samsung Chromebook – The leading provider of Chromebooks to K-12, Samsung helped over 4,000 U.S. schools move a step closer to one-to-one computing in 2013. Samsung Chromebooks are ideal for educators seeking an easy-to-use, centrally managed and cost-effective solution that is classroom-ready for one-to-one learning.
    • Interactive Whiteboards – Samsung’s interactive whiteboards solution, powered by the MagicIWB 3.0 management software, provides schools a collaborative centerpiece for learning that is interoperable with PCs and tablets on all major operating systems. Ideal for Bring Your Own Device environments, MagicIWB also enables schools to combine multiple displays for greater engagement and collaboration.
    • Samsung Printing Solutions – Samsung’s award-winning portfolio of printers and multifunction devices (MFDs) provides the versatility to meet school and district needs for printing and document management. With Samsung’s MobilePrint App, Samsung devices also allow teachers and students to effortlessly print documents from smartphones or tablet PCs.

Product News : SAMSUNG Introduces Zero Client Cloud Stand and 21.5” Zero Client Cloud Display at VMworld 2013

San Francisco, August 26, 2013 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is exhibiting its latest virtualization products and solutions at VMworld 2013, an annual conference for IT professionals focusing on virtualization and cloud computing. Samsung will be showcasing a number of virtualization products for the first time in the U.S. at VMworld, booth #1729, from August 25-29. These include the new NB-NH Cloud Stand, the all-new 21.5” NC221 and the rest of Samsung’s 2013 NC Series zero client line-up of cloud displays, equipped with the new 2nd generation Teradici chipset (Tera2) processor for lower energy costs and greater power efficiency.

“Samsung is dedicated to supporting enterprise customers with products that offer businesses across vertical markets such as education, federal government, corporate, banking/financial and healthcare with secure and efficient ways to embrace cloud computing,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Samsung continues to drive technology leadership in virtualization and cloud display by providing solutions like the NB-NH Cloud Stand that enable businesses to more easily deploy, maintain and manage user environments that are less vulnerable to security risks, while also freeing up valuable desktop real estate.”

NB-NH Cloud Stand – Built for Performance, Adaptability and Affordability
Samsung’s NB-NH is the world’s first Tera2 zero client cloud display, enabling users to transform business monitors into a VDI access device by integrating the latest VDI endpoint technology into the base of the monitor stand. With VDI intelligence and I/O built into the monitor stand, users can free their working environments of bulky workstations and modular desktop appliances.

With an embedded Tera2 chipset, the NB-NH requires no external hard drive or chipset for cloud computing, while also helping users achieve higher performance with greater efficiency. This state-of-the-art zero client technology has been improved to deliver up to 5 times the VDI pixel performance over the previous generation, lower power consumption which reduces energy costs, stronger security with AES 256-bit encryption and less bandwidth usage via client-side caching and enhanced compression.

Built-in PCoIP technology allows users to seamlessly connect to their organization’s business cloud, making user environments easier to deploy, maintain and manage, while being less vulnerable to security risks. This makes the NB-NH ideal for business IT environments delivering VDI to the desktop from a hosted business cloud, including education (K-12 and university), public sector, federal government, corporate, banking/finance and healthcare environments.

The NB-NH Cloud Stand enables businesses to simplify and secure their network endpoints with desktop intelligence baked in to the design. SoC (System on Chip) technology is used to reduce the desktop attack surface while almost eliminating the need for client-side administration. Since most software is remote, and critical data is centralized, time and money spent on managing the user environment is vastly reduced.

Samsung’s NB-NH Cloud Stand also provides the I/O connections today’s business users need. With four integrated USB 2.0 ports, users can connect a wide range of modern USB peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, web cams, smart card or CAC readers, wireless keyboard/mouse and headsets. Integrated stereo speakers offer a more complete, out-of-the-box multimedia experience while preventing unplanned costs for clunky aftermarket sound products.

It is designed to hold virtually any VESA-compatible monitor with dimensions up to 27-inches and weighing up to 14.3 lbs. Industry standard 75mm and 100mm VESA mounting options offer users the modularity required to support their existing monitors or upgrade to a 21.5-inch, 23.6-inch or 27-inch panel.

NC Series Zero Client Cloud Displays – Featuring Tera2 Chipset
Samsung’s NC Series zero client lineup is a class of professional-grade monitors specially designed for desktop virtualization and cloud computing. These highly-advanced cloud displays provide integrated connectivity to business clouds via desktop virtualization technology, therefore eliminating the need for a bulky PC with excessive IT administration costs. As sensitive information is centralized and secured in a business cloud, the user environment is easier to deploy, maintain and manage while minimizing exposure to security risks.

Certified for optimal use with VMware ViewTM (VDI Connection Broker), the NC Series cloud displays combine the latest Tera2 chipset with an LED-backlit LCD screen for business-class performance and state-of-the-art picture quality in a highly efficient package.

Benefits of the new Tera2 chipset include:

  • Lower energy costs with greater power efficiency
  • Up to 5 times the VDI pixel performance over the previous generation chipset
  • USB synchronization for webcam support
  • Reduction in bandwidth via client-side caching and enhanced compression
  • Stronger security with AES 256-bit Encryption for PCoIP communication
  • The all new NC221 completes Samsung’s transition to the latest VDI access technology which leverages the Tera2 (Tera2321) chipset. With an integrated 21.5” display panel, it’s ideal for most knowledge workers. Like all other NC series cloud displays, the NC221 includes a digital display output for driving a secondary monitor, allowing users to span their UI for greater productivity and a more satisfying work experience.

    Price and Availability
The new NB-NH Cloud Stand and Samsung’s 2013 NC Series lineup of zero client products (including the NC191-T, NC221 and NC241-T) can be ordered today. The NB-NH Cloud Stand is priced just under $299 and prices for the 2013 NC Series start at $477. All Samsung displays can be found at select Samsung resellers and channel partners. Product News : SAMSUNG Releases a Line of HDBaseT-enabled Commercial HD Displays

LAS VEGAS – 2014 International CES – January 7, 2014 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., together with the HDBaseT Alliance today announced the addition of HDBaseT to select models of Samsung’s large format display product (LFD) line. With the introduction of the new HDBaseT plug-in module, LFD installations become significantly simpler and less costly.

HDBaseT technology, powered by the Valens chipset, enables all-in-one connectivity between HD video sources and remote displays through a single 100m/328ft CAT5e/6 cable, delivering uncompressed high definition video, audio, Ethernet, control signals and up to 100 watts of power. The HDBaseT Alliance will showcase the HDBaseT Receiver on Samsung’s new ME75C full HD display at its booth, LVCC South Hall 1 #20215.

“HDBaseT provides our customers with a connectivity solution that significantly reduces the time and money required to complete the job when compared to other typical cabling options,” said Thomas Evans, Director of Marketing – Professional Display at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Using HDBaseT for digital signage is an industry game changer that enables professional installers to complete their projects on-time and on-budget.”

HDBaseT has become a global standard for installing digital displays in conference rooms and board rooms. HDBaseT eliminates cabling distance limitations by delivering uncompressed video, audio, control and Ethernet up to 100 meters. Avoiding video compression ensures installers do not have to sacrifice high image quality and delivery speed, and using a standard CAT5e/6 twisted-pair LAN cable with regular RJ-45 connectors makes in-field termination simple and fast.

“The commitment Samsung has shown to advancing the development and deployment of HDBaseT has been strong since Day 1, and today that commitment is stronger than ever,” said Micha Risling, marketing chair of the HDBaseT Alliance. “Since co-founding the HDBaseT Alliance in 2007, Samsung has both helped grow the Alliance to nearly 80 members made up of the world’s leading A/V manufacturers and led the development of HDBaseT-enabled components for professionals and consumers.”

The ME75C is part of the ME – C Series and is a slim, lightweight 75 inch display that supports the new HDBaseT plug-in module. It is also a reliable and cost-effective way to convey a more impactful message in retail environments, conference rooms, public spaces and educational venues. The ME75C provides increased energy savings over CCFL backlit displays with a thin chassis and narrow bezel to help simplify installation and provide an impactful message.

The new HDBaseT plug-in module, PIM-HDBT, will be available with compatible Samsung LFDs at the end of February 2014. For more information, please visit the product page Samsung PIM-HDBT.

With the 2014 Smart TV, finding content is easier than ever. Users can change the channel in one step – by simply saying the channel number. They can even open a website or app using shortcuts. For reference, 2013 models require two steps to change TV channels: ‘Channel Change’ and ‘Channel Number’

The voice search feature is also more convenient to use, letting users find all content results in one place.

Further, when a consumer uses voice interaction to search for daily living information such as weather, stocks and sports while watching TV, a pop-up window appears on the bottom of the page with search results. Consumers can move to the app and see the details by clicking the pop-up.

Along with voice interaction, the motion control has been improved by adding the ‘finger gesture’ feature of the 2014 Smart TVs – a significant improvement to motion control.

Thanks to ‘finger gesture,’ users can change the TV channel, adjust the volume, find and select what they want to watch just by using their fingers. They can also go back to the previous screen and stop the video by motioning their finger counterclockwise – a more intuitive way to control the TV.

Samsung’s 2014 Smart TV models will be shown at booth #12004 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at CES 2014.

Product News : SAMSUNG Invites You to Discover A New Healthcare Experience at RSNA

CHICAGO – December 2, 2013Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, is showcasing its growing presence in the radiology field and its commitment to deliver a new healthcare experience through accurate, easy and fast diagnostics solutions at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting at McCormick Place in Chicago. Product specialists will be on hand all week at booth #6913 (North Building) demonstrating Samsung’s full range of solutions including Ultrasound, Digital Radiography (DR) and portable Computed Tomography (CT) systems.

“This has been a tremendous year of growth for Samsung in Health and Medical Equipment. We have significantly expanded our product portfolio in 2013, starting with the acquisition of NeuroLogica Corporation, the expansion of our presence in the Point-of-Care Ultrasound market and launching a suite of Digital Radiography systems,” said Doug Ryan, Group Vice President for Samsung’s Health and Medical Equipment (HME) unit within its Enterprise Business Division. “As the U.S. healthcare industry undergoes its most significant transition in a generation, we are excited about the opportunities ahead to work with healthcare providers to unlock workflow efficiencies and enhance the quality of care.”

Samsung Health and Medical Equipment – Discover A New Healthcare Experience

The changing healthcare landscape will challenge healthcare providers to find more efficient and cost-effective clinical pathways to deliver diagnosis and transform the care they offer to patients. Samsung’s portfolio of healthcare products offers providers high performance combined with the ergonomic design and enhanced user-experience through innovation that has made Samsung a global technology leader.

For the first time in the Samsung booth, subsidiary NeuroLogica will be showcasing its lineup of innovative portable Computed Tomography solutions. From the 32-slice BodyTom to the small bore CereTom and inSPira HD SPECT, NeuroLogica’s mobile solutions bring CT imaging to the patient, whether they be in intensive care, the operating room, emergency department or other key clinical areas.

Now commercially available in the U.S., Samsung is also demonstrating its lineup of Samsung XGEO Digital Radiography systems which combine advanced imaging technology, award-winning design and user-friendly automated workflows to meet the demands of 21st century radiology departments. In 2014, Samsung is also introducing a new detector that will provide enhanced image quality in low dose conditions by direct deposition technology for the Samsung XGEO GC80 and XGEO GU60A as well as other new DR systems

As providers increasingly recognize the broader advantages of Ultrasound, Samsung has also expanded its UGEO lineup in 2013 to complement existing Samsung Medison Ultrasound systems. Ultrasound systems on display at the booth will include:

  • The Accuvix A30, Samsung Medison’s advanced ultrasound system now featuring “Fetal Realistic View” rendering technology
  • The UGEO H60, providing advanced imaging in a compact, ergonomic design
  • The SonoAce R7, a compact system providing full spectrum imaging for greater diagnostic confidence
  • The UGEO PT60A, Samsung’s first tablet-based ultrasound system, with performance, compact size and ease of use for Point-of-Care applications
  • The UGEO HM70A, a new high-end hand held system
  • Broadening Capabilities to Support Commitment to Healthcare Industry

Investment in the healthcare industry is an important part of Samsung’s 2020 global growth vision. The 2012 launch of Samsung Electronics America’s Health and Medical Equipment business, which unified Samsung Medison America’s personnel within the Enterprise Business Division, and this year’s acquisition of leading mobile CT provider NeuroLogica provide key capabilities and create a unified structure for Samsung on the path to becoming a trusted leader in the healthcare industry.

To solidify this investment, Samsung has continued to strengthen its leadership team throughout 2013 with the addition this past summer of Doug Ryan – who has more than 20 years of experience in strategic business development in healthcare – to lead the HME unit in the U.S. and explore new avenues of growth for the company in the healthcare industry.
